Suspect in bank robbery at largeTuesday, October 7, 2008The suspect in a bank heist at noon Monday at the Bank of Missouri is still at large, police say. Cape Girardeau police received a call at 12:08 p.m. to respond to 372 N. Kingshighway because of a report of a robbery at the bank. Surveillance video captured a photo of a man sliding a note across the desk of a bank teller, and witnesses told police the suspect showed a handgun when he committed the robbery, according to Cpl. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department. Police declined to disclose the contents of the note, Selzer said. The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Selzer said. No one inside the bank recalled seeing a car pull out of the parking lot, but police used a canine to track a potential trail, and it stopped several hundred feet south of the bank property. It is unknown how far the suspect would have fled on foot, though he was believed to have headed southeast. A few leads as to the identity of the suspect came in throughout the afternoon, but none of them have panned out so far, Selzer said. Cape Girardeau evidence technicians checked surfaces at the scene for fingerprints but weren't releasing whether any usable prints were detected, Selzer said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Cape Girardeau Police Department at 335-6621. 335-6611, extension 245 Have a comment?
