Campaigns for April 8 elections underway

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

Four men and one woman have filed to compete for the change to replace Perryville, Mo.'s late mayor, Robert Miget.

According to Perryville city clerk Tracy Prost, voters will decide among Marvin Ruehling, Mark Leuckel, Van Naeger, Jackie Patton and Debbie Gahan on April 8.

Al Oliver filed at the last minute to run against incumbent Roger Prost -- a distant relative to Tracy Prost's husband -- in Perryville's Ward 1. Ward 2 Frank "Bill" Bergman faces Curt Buerck. In Ward 3 incumbent Butch Flentge is competing with Prince Hudson and Donald R. LaRose. Paula Jackson and Lori Schnurbusch Carroll are running for Perryville city collector.

Perryville's municipal judge, Robert Hershey, is running to retain his office and has no challengers.

In Jackson, no one has filed to run against any of the four incumbent aldermen up for re-election: Curtis Poore, Joe Bob Baker, Dave Reiminger and Larry Cunningham.

But Scott City Mayor Tim Porch is being challenged by Charlotte Cannon. Rob Henderson, incumbent alderman for Scott City's Ward 4 residents, faces opponents Norman Brant and Andrew Bard, while Ward 3 incumbent Kirk Lewis has no challengers. Ward 1 alderman Bill Schwartz will have to beat Jerald Hillman to keep his seat; in Ward 2, Jarret Bollinger faces Tim Rushing; incumbent Jim McCarty announced his resignation at the last council meeting. McCarty is moving out of state, according to city clerk Cindy Uhrhan.
