Jerry Ford to play big benefitPosted Friday, February 29, at 6:25 PM
Jerry Ford is gearing up for a BIG show. Usually he gets paid pretty well for these things, but not this time.
Jerry's next big local show is a benefit, happening March 16 at the Central Junior High Auditorium, with proceeds going to the Cape Girardeau Public Schools Foundation. The money will go to improvements for the auditorium at Central Junior High. Ford is no stranger to charitable giving, part of the reason he was honored with the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's Friends of the Arts award last year. Lots of musicians of all ages will perform, including: Pat Blackwell Pat Schwent Beverly Reece Gene Stiman Bruce Zimmerman & Water Street Band Sounds Unlimited featuring John Pyatt & Gary Pressly of St. Louis Dr. Richard Moore Quartet Billy Keys & Keller Ford with Papa Aborigine Mike Michelson of Jefferson City Salvation Army Tree of Lights Band CVB Dixieland Band Trudy Lee Vi Ann Keys Brodrick Twiggs & Quitman McBride III Tickets are $10, and sponsorships are available. If you want to find out more call 334-2923.

The Show Me Center has done it. For the first time since 2003 (I'm fairly certain), when Toby Keith and Rascal Flatts came to town, the venue has scored a sell out. A crowd of 6,597 showed up Thursday night, despite the bad weather, for a four-band modern rock line-up: Three Days Grace, Seether, Breaking Benjamin and Hurt...
Tom Scholz, chief songwriter and founder of the '70s rock group Boston, has a message for presidential candidate Mike Huckabee: You've got no right to use our music! The Associated Press reported Monday that Scholz has told Huckabee to cease and desist from using "More Than a Feeling" on his campaign...
It's a sad day, because it looks like the immortal Led Zeppelin will not be at the Bonnaroo music festival this summer after all. However, Lez Zeppelin, the all-woman Zep tribute band, will be there. Apparently many media outlets confused the two when Bonnaroo released its lineup midnight Wednesday, if MTV.com is to be believed...

Super Bowl ads are big business, big entertainment Super Bowl Sunday is here. But you know that, because the media messages have been so saturated with Super talk for the past week you can't help but have your brain invaded by thoughts of bone-crushing hits and an old rocker with long, stringy blond hair...
Cape is a music city I don't know if you've had a chance to read my column in SE Live this week (check your newspaper today for a copy), but I want your feedback. Basically, my argument is this: Cape Girardeau's best cultural asset is the rather large, and in many cases very talented, crop of musicians that live and perform here...
Want to help out a hometown girl (not to mention of the best musicians to come from Cape probably ever)? Here's your chance. Liesl Schoenberger, a personal favorite of mine among Cape musicians, is competing for the recognition of being America's top young instrumental talent. If you don't know who Liesl is, you can find some background on her here. Or you can go to her MySpace page...
Weinstein Co. confirms April 11 "Killshot" release The headline pretty much says it all. A Weinstein Co. publicist (two, actually) told me today that the official "Killshot" release date is April 11, though no other details were available. The Weinstein Web site still lists the movie as "coming soon."...
